President's Message July,2007
Education has always
been the main theme of the FACUG conference
and they have continued with this goal at every conference I have
attended. I have never left one without knowing a lot more than
when I signed in, received my id card along with my “goodie
bag”, which soon would be filled with freebies from the
Vendors. The success of the conference depends on them and we
should write to them and tell them how much they are appreciated
and THANK them very much. I personally know they appreciate hearing
from us.
This years meeting was down in attendance, but the quality of all the roundtables and vendor programs never changed, they were excellent.
The
change in attendance is prevalent with all organizations and is
due
to many factors of our rapidly changing way of life. Computers
hold the
#1 position affecting our life. Any car, appliance, refrigerator,
television,
washing machines , dryers, clocks, microwaves and almost every
thing electronic is computerized. We have changed the way we read
newspapers and write to our friends. We are presently just at
the tip of the iceberg. I just read a business report that last
year showed a large increase in on line buying of all types of
items not computer related.
How long ago was it if someone said we would be taking photos
without
any film.? You would think “this person is nuts!”
It has happened and digital cameras more popular and efficient
every day.[SLR] Single lense reflex, [changeable lenses], along
with a higher degree of quality prints are contributing to professional
phographers adding them as choice of tools of their trade.
You get the idea, now “ On with the show”.
On Friday, March 2, 2007 about 2:30 pm as I was checking in at the FACUG conference in Kissimmee, I noticed directly behind the registration desk in the Oak room , Dick Sueterlin was busy organizing all the goodies that he was stuffing in our freebie bags. I wandered in and offered my assistance, but he had everything under control. I did help some but Dick did a great job getting everything ready for incoming members and all was prepared by the time the first signee arrived. The rest of the afternoon was spent on arrivals who found the registration was easy due to the way all was efficiently organized. From 6:00 – 8:00 pm we attended the Vendor Faire and was pleased to find new products being displayed and demonstrated. The Vendor Faire was sponsored by www.thetoronado.com. Cliff Hughes presented a cable system that connects two computers together by usb ports and transfers data in seconds without installing any software it was amazing. Call me if you want to know more or go to their web site.
Sat.
March 3, 2007 7:30-10:00 am
Registration 8:00 – 9:30 am Breakfast
[ delicious ] sponsored by our favorite magazine, Smart Computing.
Represented by two gals well known to us all, congenial and energetic
Jen Clausen and Marcy Kremer who also conducted the program showing
us whats new with their publications. Marcy has changed her name
as she got married since we last saw her. The first person to
give me her correct maiden name will receive a very nice prize.
9:40
-10:40 am panel/roundtables
One roundtable featured our own
Danny Smith who talked and demonstrated on the Ins & Outs
of Hardware. He had displays and hardware to emphasize his program.
“GOOD SHOW DANNY”! The morning
produced sixteen roundtables and Sunday presented eight more.
For the complete list go to FACUG website, scheduled events, you
can learn about the whole conference from this location. Everyone
who attended Sunday's drawing walked away with a prize and some
were “real goodies”. I chose the 2007 handbook on
Using Powerpoint.
I
believe the conference was very successful and everyone left a
lot wiser
on computer related subjects not to mention all the old friends
[ and new ] that we were able to enjoy their company. For those
in our group who didn't attend, I suggest you make it a point
to do so next year. You will be thankful you did. Pictures of
the FACUG conference can be downloaded here.
Thanks for listening and til' next time be sure to browse all
the photos in this issue.
